Internal Gods
As an artist, my process of creation is intuitive. By manipulating shapes and colors I know that I am able to create an infinite amount of art. Art is not just a hobby or a sidehustle, for me it’s part of my everyday life. The journey art has taken me on has become a spiritual experience. After induldging in meditation I opened myself up to the journey of a lifetime. It gave me insight to the energies that exist on this planet. So, I chose to focus on the most spiritual energy, divine energy. We know that gods are relevant in almost every religion because of their powerful presents and the things they can control. Their energy is viewed as unreachable or unfamiliar when realistically we are the ones who discovered them. My goal for this project is to show that it is possible for us as humans to tap into our godly energies.
To be grounded is to be present and being grounded is important to my meditation. Clay is an element straight from the ground which is why I chose this medium. Using it illuminates the spiritual element in this project. Internal Gods is an exhibition that reflects the human experience. Emotion is a powerful thing in our world and sometimes it can feel strong enough to take over the world, kind of like how gods do. With a mix of intuitive expression and spiritual manifestation I created each sculpture with the intention of a theme I deemed important to myself. These themes include birth, balance, strength, intuition, elemantals, the mind and of course the dark side of things. To show all of this, I created forms that felt familiar yet distant. The human body, eyes, duplication of shapes and presence of color are included in each sculpture. By adding glass, I aim to express the light within. By creating chambers, I aim to express the darkness within or the absence of light. Two energies that both exist in all of us.
