Wood, Paper, and Glue
The work presented in Wood, Paper, and Glue strives to examine the definition of the book through a redefinition of the object we call the book. A book no longer has to be a series of bound pages secured between cover boards. Instead, it can consist of darkened space sandwiched between two lenses, encased by paper bellows, or in a Rolodex, or even as a video. The difference between my books and famous artist books by Ed Ruscha and Pierre Ouvrard is that my books push beyond the realm of “artist book” into that of “Abstract book.” This exhibition is setup as a chronology, a timeline of my experimentation, from the artist book Lust to the abstract books Rolodex and the Accordion Obscuras. The work presented allows the viewer a way to see the world through a lens, both literal and metaphorical, and to create an experience you cannot replicate.
