Mindless Organism
Mindless Organism is an exhibition that explores events humans do not typically see in nature, like evolution, camouflage, and self. The artist is the mediator between mind and nature, creating a space that allows the organism to continue growing and consuming after germinating from the artist’s emotions and energy. The collection is impermanent as the artwork and artist constantly evolve, reflecting on the idea of art as a continuous process.
As life evolves, visitors to the exhibition will witness the transformation of both the photographs and ceramic pieces as patterns and repetition are introduced, revealing the evolving nature of existence. This change represents evolution as the organism needs camouflage to thrive. Conceptually, the behavior expresses my experience navigating the world as I also seek camouflage to protect myself from others and the mundane world. Therefore, posing the question, how do you reflect nature and its behaviors?
When looking at the exhibition, one will experience the vulnerability and fragility of nature through the disintegration of the engraved photography pieces and the refuge the ceramic pieces have by living in the sand and mulch. As a viewer, you are supposed to look closely at the work and wonder what you are examining. Hopefully, it reflects the wonder and novelty you experienced as a child exploring nature.
By exploring the existence of nature as it is chaos and structure, the exhibition cannot be fully explained in language, but rather, it is an experience and presence.
